Matt Hancock has resigned as health secretary, Downing Street confirmed.

The disgraced cabinet member has left his position following the revelation of an affair with his aide Gina Coladangelo.

Before this latest news Hancock had been steadfast in his commitment to stay in his role although he did say that he had “let people down” after photos emerged of him with Mrs Coladangelo – whom he appointed – and he was “very sorry”.
