Mexico’s presidential elections has become the bloodiest in modern history after a total of 38 candidates were assassinated before its conclusion.
Claudia Sheinbaum not only made history as she was elected as Mexico’s first female president, but she also managed to secure between 58.3% and 60.7% of the vote, according to a rapid sample count by Mexico’s electoral authority.
Those numbers are set to be the highest vote percentage in Mexico’s democratic history.
However her victory is set to the backdrop of violence brought on by drug cartels likely try to force voters to support their favoured candidates.
In her victory speak she told cheering voters: “For the first time in the 200 years of the [Mexican] Republic, I will become the first woman president of Mexico.”
“I’ve said it from the start, this is not just about me getting [to the top office], it’s about all of us getting here. I won’t fail you.”
Sheinbaum also vowed to improve security but neglected to go into detail.
