Musician, writer and artist Jordan Stephens makes a shining return to follow his 2019 debut solo EP P.I.G. (Pain Is Good) with powerful new single, Son Of A Gun.
A perfect sonic blend of alternative Pop, R&B and Hip Hop, it’s deeper lyrical narrative sticks true to Jordan’s penchant for thoughtful and relatable output as it addresses the cycles of trauma in young men that a fatherless generation have found themselves in. A true sonic journey, Son Of A Gun is reflecting Jordan’s myriad of personal interests and musical inspirations. The single is a triumphant display of musical talent, dexterity and versatility.
Speaking on the Son Of A Gun, Jordan commented;“This phenomenon of the cycles of trauma in young men is not just exclusive to fatherlessness, the sentiment applies to stressed mothers, difficult pregnancies and more. Young boys in particular, then enter into a society that doesn’t necessarily provide an opportunity for them to break out of that emotional cycle. – “The birth of a new society begins with the woman.””
As thought-provoking a release visually as it is sonically, Jordan continues this deep and emotive exploration with the accompanying video – a trippy, DIY ‘one shot’ self-directed video he took on his webcam in isolation last month. The premise – inspired by a classic horror film scenario – sees Jordan dancing alone in his home in Margate whilst a masked intruder enters. Jordan has an idea of what the mask represents; but wants this to remain open for interpretation.
