A New York landlady has taken vegan-ism to a new extreme banning all meat and fish from being cooked on her property.
Michal Arieh Lerer, who charges $4,500 (£3,500) to $5,750 (£4,485) a month for her townhouse apartments in Brooklyn, has sparked debates online with her controversial policy.
Barring a medical condition that requires the tenant to eat meat the no meat restriction is actually not illegal.
One saving grace however is that takeaway food containing meat/fish is perfectly fine with Lerer.
“It’s not vegetarian-only, but the owner lives in the building and doesn’t want the smell of cooking meat drifting upstairs,” rental broker, Andrea Kelly told the NYT.
Despite the controversy, the apartments are still available for rent on the estate agent’s website with the omission of any mention of the meat ban.
