‘Trapping’, a new film directed by BAFTA and Grammy nominated filmmaker Penny Woolcock and starring UK Rap heavyweight Abra Cadabra, was released last Friday via new streaming platform The Drop. The film focusses on the topic of county lines, which sparked a discussion in the Houses of Parliament chaired by Streatham MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy.
Ribeiro-Addy was joined on the panel by Abra Cadabra and Trapping producer Femi Oyeniran, Enact Equality CEO L’Myah Sherae, Amani Simpson, and Power The Fight founder Ben Lindsay OBE. The discussion covered extensive topics including the rise of children being used in county lines and the possibility of decriminalising drug possession in the UK.
The ‘Trapping’ film aims to shed a light on the hard hitting topics discussed in parliament without glamourising them. Abra Cadabra has also provided the soundtrack for the film, stating:
‘The EP is inspired by my experience of working on the film as well as my personal experience of growing up in Tottenham. What I’m playing as Magic, in the film, I’ve really seen. I’m merging my reality with Magic’s reality.’
