The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has established a new ‘London Needs You Alive’ campaign to help tackle knife crime in London.

“Proud to launch my new knife crime prevention campaign today. We want young Londoners to see how incredible they are and to know they are the future of this city. They shouldn’t put their lives at risk by carrying a knife #LondonNeedsYouAlive #LNYA” – said Sadiq.

The campaign started yesterday morning (Wednesday 15th November 2017) on social media, with posts under the hashtags #LondonNeedsYouAlive and #LYNA.

The campaign has been received so well by various artists and personnels from the scene, who has been sharing the movement.

Amongst the artists supporting the movement is ‘Bestie’ hitmaker and South London rapper Yungen, who took to his social media to share the movement.

“Proud to be part of this campaign that launched today. #LondonNeedsYouAlive to stop knife crime in London. It was good to see the mayor Sadiq down there and so many young people who came before school to be involved.”

Another artist who has backed the positive movement is Bossman Birdie, who thanked Sadiq for the positive work.

The London mayor, Sadiq Khan, said: “We can’t solve the problem by police enforcement alone. We need to get the message across that our young Londoners are too valuable to risk their lives by carrying a knife. They are our future musicians, artists, sportsmen and women, comedians, scientists, politicians, entrepreneurs and role models. We need them.

“There is an old proverb which says it takes a village to raise a child. That means the whole community – parents, families, teachers, schools, youth clubs or social workers – playing its part and I am proud to have the support of so many talented and influential role models in launching this new campaign. These people have used their talent to achieve great things and realise their potential. Now they are helping to ensure the next generation can do the same.”
