Pfizer and BioNTech announced on Monday 9th November 2020 that they had produced a vaccine, 90% effective in preventing people from getting the Covid-19 virus. The UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock has told the NHS, to “be ready from the start of December” to start deploying the vaccine.

The “promising news” came with a reminder to remain catious saying that the vaccine was “one step of many” and that the British public should “keep their resolve” when it came to following the rules of the nationwide lockdown that was applied last week.

He said: “Of course there are many hurdles that still need to be gone over and we haven’t seen the full safety data and obviously that is critical and we won’t deploy a vaccine unless we can be confident in its clinical safety. But we also do need to be ready should a vaccine be licensed and get through all those hurdles and ready to roll it out.”

Elderly citizens, Social care, NHS and Care home staff alongside residnts would be first in line for the vaccine, he later added.
