A night to remember for Stormzy…
Last night saw MOBO host another successful award ceremony to mark the end of year – recognising a host of artists and congratulating then on a job well done this year.
Hosted by Maya Jama and Marvin Humes, the show that took place at the First Direct Arena in Leeds saw huge performances from the likes Stefflon Don, Yungen, Yxng Bane, Krept and Konan, Not3s, Davido, Cardi B, Ray BLK, Tokio Myers and B Positive Choir.
It was a night to remember for Stormzy as he scooped three awards on the night ; Best Male Act, Best Grime Act and Best Album with Gang Signs & Prayer – his debut album.
Stefflon Don’s hard work and consistency this year saw her claim the ‘Best Female Act’ award, with a performance to be admired.
Giggs has more times been overlooked, but his work-rate and effort meant that MOBO had no option but to recognise and award his efforts. He missed out on the ‘Best Male Act’ but took home the ‘Best hip-hop act’.
Most people tipped J Hus for the Best Album following his Rated Awards win. That went to Stormzy instead, who very much deserved it – having charted at Number 1 with his album. The aforementioned ended up winning the ‘Best Song’ with his club and radio hit ‘Did You See’.
The ‘Best Newcomer’ was one of the hardest category. Literally everyone on the list deserved the award, but it was Dave who took the crown following an incredible year he’s had.
Actor and DJ Idris Elba took the Paving The Way award for his achievements in the arts and contribution to British culture.
