Marcus Rashford is back in the news again but this time instead of getting kids to eat he’s getting them books to read.
In partnership with Macmillan Books, the Manchester United star has set up a scheme to try and promote literacy in kids of all demographics.
Macmillan Children’s Books and Rashford will publish a range of children’s books for kids ages 5-18 and also launch the Marcus Rashford Book Club.
The books will start with a story from Rashford’s own life in every chapter and will look at the value of education, positivity, female role models and understanding culture.
Rashford who only started reading at 17 said “it completely changed my outlook and mentality.” He explained he didn’t have access to books and that food was the priority in the family budget.
There are just under 400,000 children who have never owned a book in the UK. Rashford said he wants to make sure they all get the opportunity to read even if he has to deliver the books himself. “I want this escapism for all children. Not just those who can afford it.”
