The world as we know it could be set for a major change up with news that India is potentially gearing up to officially rename itself to Bharat.
Rumours about a change swirled after a state-issued invitation to the G20 summit, hosted by India, referred to the sub-continent nation state as Bharat.
The use of India’s Sanskrit name in the presence of world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron has earned support within Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s who argue the name India, introduced by British colonials, is a “symbol of slavery”.
The government has called a special session of parliament late this month, but details of the legislative agenda has not been revealed yet, according to The Guardian.
The Modi administration is no stranger to changing names, doing so on various official landmarks and buildings of national importance over the past few years.
