Moving to London was a conscious decision rapper/songwriter A S Jay made at such a young
age. Deriving from such a culturally mixed background was the very factor that allowed him
to fall in love with the diversity the city of London has to offer.
Raised in households that were empowered by strong women, embracing their Caribbean,
African and Asian culture added a unique spin to A S Jay’s music; as relating to the struggles
faced in each of these communities is an attribute that he has acquired effortlessly.
Hip – Hop culture played a huge part to the start of A S Jay’s journey, as he describes the late
great Tupac Shakur as an artist who not only influenced his music but had also adopted the
role of a ‘musical father figure’ as it were.
A S Jay also connected with other musicians who also made music that evoked emotion such
as; Jay Z, Nas, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole but to name a few. It’s these influences that
inspire him to also create soulful, conscious music.
Leaning on music as if it were a manual to the inner workings of life is something A S Jay
did growing up. He faced many challenges as a teen which regardless of their negative impact
at the time have helped shaped him as a person. Today he uses those experiences to tell a
story, one which can be heard through his music.
What the future entails for A S Jay is that he plans to release a few singles in the run up to his
debut body of work, which will finally awaken the masses and bring forth a fresh talent to the
Hip – Hop scene.
