Nine months after his seminal debut EP Based Off Black which was championed by the likes of Complex, Earmilk, Hypetrak, The 405, MTV, DJ Booth and BBC Introducing among others, and set him up as a forerunner in the British Hip-Hop music landscape, 21-year old Bristol Hip Hop musician ThisisDA returns with his brand new sophomore EP titled 21 & Done, premiered via Clash Music.
21 & Done sees ThisisDA collaborating once again with fast-rising Cambridge producer Spacedtime (Mick Jenkins, Tone Oliver), revered Filipino musician and former XL Recordings signee Eyedress (King Krule, Ratking), and burgeoning Bristol producer Jakuta, plus further production from CoryaYo (Loyle Carner, G-Eazy, Alo Lee), and Austrian producers Mono:Massive & Philanthrope.
From the fluid opening track ‘Over’ which sets a honest tone for the entire record, to the poignant ‘Plot Twist 2’ which tackles the often difficult topic of addiction, to the angst-fuelled ‘Kudos’ which sees ThisisDA coming to terms with turning 21, this is by far the Bristol native’s most mature record. Yet again, he has delivered one of the year’s most exciting British Hip-Hop records.
Speaking about the inspiration for this new EP, ThisisDA says of 21 & Done, “this EP is a confessional piece of work that took a lot out of me – emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The EP took me down a path of scrutiny and self-inquisition as I documented my thoughts on just about everything that occurred during my 21st year on this earth. It’s a sonic self-portrait”.
