With a fierce attitude and an appetite for destruction, Smokepurpp is a defining artist of the South Florida rap scene. Paying tribute to his hometown and returning to his bass-boosted roots, Smokepurpp shares Florida Jit, his new project.
Packed with rude bars about Purpp’s expensive tastes and irresponsible lifestyle, Florida Jit delivers 17 tracks of high-octane trap music. The new project boasts several beats from Florida sound architect Ronny J, whose earworm melodies and distorted low-end helped establish the SoundCloud sound, as well as beats from Miami hit-maker Earl On The Beat and standout production from Purpp himself. Throughout the tape, Smokepurpp is a mischievous presence, spinning clipped cadences into hooks on tracks like Pop Sh*t, and experimenting with melody on songs like the powerful Ends and the chaotic 24s.
To accompany the release of the project, Purpp shares Tide Pen, a new animated video.
Produced by Earl On The Beat, Tide Pen is a flute-laden trap head-nodder, as Purpp and guest rapper Jack Harlow trade bars about their lady-killing ways. Directed and animated by Sam Hotchman, the Tide Pen video is a brilliantly-colored fever-dream, taking cues from Mad Max, Minecraft, animé, classic Westerns, and more.
