A magnificent memorable MOBO awards night. The MOBOs had many magic moments, which includes Mel B setting the runway alight, Jessie J’s fantastic voice, Sam Smiths award sweep or Fekky’s jacket and Dan’s German Whip..
Jessie J | ‘Bang Bang / Burnin Up’ ft. Kid Ink
Krept & Konan | ‘Don’t Waste My Time’
Ghetts | ‘Rebel’
Jeremih | ‘Don’t Tell ‘Em’ Ft. Krept & Konan
Most emotional speech: Skepta and Stormzy tie
Skepta’s speech embodied hope for all aspiring MCs. The guy won an award for Best Video, for a production that only cost him £80 (ledge).
Stormzy’s speech lacked words but his response was heart felt.
Who deserved a MOBO but wasn’t even nominated??
George The Poet – His work rate and musical innovation alone speaks volumes. His feature on Krept and Konan’s album was actually one the best tracks, he has broke down barriers in terms of Spoken Word and the role it plays in our culture. His wordplay and approach to social concepts is genius (I don’t use that word lightly).
Nines – Youtube views (bar BBK no one has quite done it like Nines) and BBC 1Xtra Mixtape award winner, record number of MM downloads, shutdown innovation…. is he deemed a bit too “hood” for the MOBOs, I don’t know but hopefully next year this is rectified if he maintains his momentum.
Giggs – Does this really need explaining? If both Wretch 32 and Giggs never pick up a MOBO in their careers then the validity of this award will always have question mark, considering the contribution they have made to Music Of Black Origin
That said shout to all of the MOBO award winners and nominees:
