Jazz and soul legend Billy Paul; best known for the Grammy award winning ballad ‘Me and Mrs Jones’ has sadly passed away at his home in Blackwood, New Jersey. Billy Paul, He had been recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and manager co-signed saying he had a real serious medical condition.
There was statement on Billy Pauls’ website regarding his sudden loss “We regret to announce with a heavy heart that Billy has passed away today at home after a serious medical condition.
“We would like to extend our most sincere condolences to his wife Blanche and family for their loss, as they and the world grieves the loss of another musical icon that helped pioneered todays R&B music. Billy will be truly missed.”
Born in Philadelphia, he had been singing for the majority of life alongside some of the greats in American jazz music such as Charlie Parker and Dinah Washington and also being featured on a handful of singles while still in his teens.
Known in the 70’s with a career that spanned over 60 years, his unique & diverse vocal style; which ranges from soulful to low and husky, was what he was identified by! His Grammy award single is something that still holds relevance today and he will be truly missed. Condolences to his family and well-wishers.
