The biggest night in music went down last night, returning to the Staples Centre in Los Angeles for the 58th annual Grammy Awards. Hosted by LL Cool J, the evening celebrated music from all different genres globally as a total of 83 awards were handed out during the pre-telecast and main show broadcast on CBS.
Kendrick Lamar was the night’s big winner with five. He won Best Rap Album for “To Pimp A Butterfly” as well as Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Rap/Sung performance and Best Music Video. Along with wins, Lamar also delivered a show-stopping performance when he took the stage; fusing together Rap, Jazz, Reggae and African sounds for a commanding performance of “The Blacker The Berry” and the Grammy-nominated “Alright”.
Lady Gaga, John Legend, Justin Bieber, Adele, Taylor Swift, Miguel and The Weeknd (sans Lauryn Hill who pulled out at the last minute) also hit the stage to perform. Rihanna, who was scheduled to perform, also pulled out at the 11th hour following doctor’s orders (reportedly due to bronchitis).
