Girls In Afrobeats Set Up To Celebrate Women’s History Month

Joe Simpson

In celebration of Women’s History Month, a non profit initiative titles ‘Girls In Afrobeats’ has been founded to shine a light on women working within the Afrobeats genre. The group is set to provide resources and opportunities for women across the music industry in the ever growing Afrobeat space.

At the forefront of this initiative is four powerful women within their respective industries, starting with Stephanie Adamu. Having worked for eleven years in PR and talent management, Adamu has made a name for herself as a Marketing Director for Empire, paving the way for African and British talent to thrive.

Alongside her is Stephney Bassey, who has carved out a career in digital marketing, working with huge companies such as Universal Music Nigeria and Meta amongst others. On top of that, she is also the CEO of Bass Digital Media.

Joining them is Lammy Ademeso, whose experience across multiple sectors will prove invaluable. Having worked in a plethora of industries including PR, marketing, film production, music distribution, events, and project management, she is also at the helm of the DIY Collective.

The final person at the head of the non profit is April Pope. Based in New York, Pope has extensive experience in marketing and artist development.

In a statement, Girls In Afrobeats noted:

“As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we are proud to launch Girls in Afrobeats and provide a platform for women to thrive in the Afrobeats music industry,” said the founders of Girls in Afrobeats. “Together, we are committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable space where every woman’s voice is heard and valued.”

“We envision a future where women in Afrobeats not only have a seat at the table but lead the conversation,” said Stephanie, founder of Girls in Afrobeats. “Together, we can break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and build a community where every woman’s voice is heard and valued.”
