How would you describe your music to a brand new listener?
I would say that my music is me, and I am my music. My music is unique to me, I am a unique individual. Therefore my sound is too. I try to just do myself on the mic, and am not afraid to speak my mind. Real music depicts emotion, and I am all about real.
If you could pick one producer and one MC to work with this summer, who would they be and why?
A producer I would like to work with is Dexplicit. I really like his sound, and feel he is very diverse in his style. I like a producer that can produce different styles of material for different circumstances. No one wants to constantly listening to one particular feel of music all the time. Moods change, therefore the feel of music needs to correspond to that.
Is music your sole career choice, or do you have anything else on the cards career-wise?
Music is something I currently do for fun. For escapism. I am also at university at the moment waiting to enter into my third and final year of English Literature study. If an opportunity to take music as my main career path popped up however, at the moment I am fairly sure that I would take it up.
What do you think of the UK hip-hop scene at the moment? Has it been better? Or is it at its best right now?
I think it’s quite good at the moment but could be better, for various reasons. But a bit more variation in artists is needed. A lot of artists right now sound the same to me.
If one day you woke up deaf, what would you do?
Woah… [laughs] That would be a killer! Hopefully that never happens. Music is important to me. Not only do I make music, I also take a lot of it in. Mainly for inspiration. Music helps me maintain, and I feel that it is a very important factor for a lot of other people too.
What is your favourite hip-hop lyric of all time? A toughie but a goodie 😉
Erm… I dunno if I could have just one! But I’d have to say one of Pac’s lyrics. From Ghetto Gospel – “I see no changes. Wake up in the morning and I ask myself, is life worth living? Should I blast myself? I’m tired of bein’ poor…” That lyric for me, perfectly embodies the struggle that a lot of us face, day to day. Pac was a spokesman for the forgotten, and that lyric there is one that really touches and relates to me.
Other than music, what are your hobbies?
I enjoy playing basketball. I used to be really passionate about playing. I was in a top notch school team. We won a national league cup once, and came third another time I think. Or maybe second. Not too sure which [laughs]. I like playing some Playstation 3 here and there… whenever I get the time you know. I like being sociable and chilling.. and yeah.. dealing with uni stress [laughs]!
What releases do you have planned for the next few months?
I have a new independently released mixtape, Protostar, which is scheduled for release in August. August the 12th to be precise. It is the follow up to my last mixtape Unity, which was released in 2011, on that exact day. Hopefully the reception to the material will be good, and the supporters will take to it. I personally feel that it is a great step up from Unity.
