I must start this post with a disclaimer. I’m not the type of girl who gets excited when a celebrity changes their image. However when I saw one of my favourite UK rappers of all time Tweet that he had cut off his trademark dreadlocks, I was left stunned, astonished, gobsmacked and almost speechless. Almost.
I asked Gen why he did it, to which he replied that he felt it was “time for a change and to switch things up”, so he chopped off his locks which he’d been growing for 13 years.
Gen has been a heavyweight in the UK rap game from way back. From his first official EP Deh Pon Road, released in 2005, til now, the MC has mesmerised both his fans and his peers alike with his conscious, deliberately mindful lyrics and his consistent work rate.
